The War Veterans Grant is a special financial assistance program provided by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) to honor and support veterans who served in significant military conflicts, specifically the Korean War (1950-1953) and the Second World War (1939-1945). 

This grant is aimed at alleviating the economic hardships faced by these veterans, especially those over 60 years old with minimal or no income.

Who Can Apply for the SASSA Veterans Grant?

To be eligible for the SASSA Veterans Grant, applicants must meet specific criteria. The grant is available to veterans who served in the Second World War (1939-1945) or the Korean War (1950-1953). Applicants must also be over the age of 60 and have minimal or no means of income.

Additionally, the applicant must be a South African citizen and reside within South Africa at the time of application. Applicants must provide relevant documentation to prove their veteran status and fulfill all residency and citizenship requirements. How to Apply for the SASSA Veterans Grant?

To apply for the SASSA Veterans Grant, the applicant must visit the nearest SASSA office in person. Upon arrival, they should request a SASSA grant application form from the available staff. The SASSA staff are there to assist, so applicants can seek their help in accurately completing the form. 

It is essential to attach proof of veteran status to the application. Once the form is filled out and all necessary documents are attached, the applicant can submit the grant application directly at the SASSA office.

How to Pass the SASSA Means Test for War Veterans Grant?

SASSA uses the tax payments to distribute the grant among the beneficiaries. So SASSA can’t provide the grant to all the veterans. That is why, SASSA uses the means test to check the qualification of each applicant.

Annual Income Threshold:

  • The applicant’s yearly income should not exceed R96,840.
  • If you are married and living together, then your combined earnings should not go above R193,680.

Assets Threshold:

  • SASSA does not allow grants to those who have more than R1 372 800 value of assets if they are single.
  • For the married applicants, this limit is R2 745 600 combined.

What is the Grant Pay of Veterans Pension?

SASSA will deposit R2,210 per month to the banks of all the approved beneficiaries.
